Volunteer Firefighter Charged with Arson

A joint investigation by the Alabama Forestry Commission and the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s office, in cooperation with the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department, has resulted in the arrest of a Mobile County volunteer firefighter. 

 

State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk reports that 18-year-old Coty Presley of Chunchula was arrested this morning in connection with a fire that occurred on February 19, 2009, at a residence and surrounding property in Chunchula.  

 

Presley, a firefighter with the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department, has been charged with one count of Second Degree Arson, a Class B felony, and one count of Arson for willfully or maliciously setting fire to woodlands or grasslands, a Class C felony. Bond was set at $6,000. If convicted, Presley could be sentenced up to 15 years in prison, plus fines and restitution.
