Press Release: Medicaid

Extended Deadline for Individual Allied Mental Health Professionals (AMHP) Enrollment – July 30, 2019

PDF Version

TO: Psychologists, LPCs, ALCs, LMFTs, LMSWs, and LICSWs

Alabama Medicaid announced new requirements for Individual AMHP enrollment in September 2018. At that time, the Agency began individually enrolling LPCs, ALCs, LMFTs, LMSWs, and LICSWs for accountability and direct reimbursement.

This notice is a final reminder to providers who have not enrolled that denial of claims begins on August 1, 2019 and thereafter. Submission of fingerprints is also required. Contact any county driver’s license office in the state of Alabama to have this done.

LPCs, ALCs, LMFTs, LMSWs and LICSWs must be individually enrolled Medicaid providers and file claims with their own NPI number. Claims submitted using the current method of psychologists’ NPI number and appropriate modifier for dates of service on or after August 1, 2019 will be denied.

What steps are necessary to enroll?

   1. Providers associated with more than one group, or providing services at multiple locations, must submit a separate application for each location. The enrollment process can take up to 40 days to complete. Therefore, providers are encouraged to begin the enrollment process as soon as possible to prevent delays in payment.  For enrollment application approval, all information must be complete and accurate.

Visit the following to complete an enrollment application:  http://www.medicaid.alabama.gov/content/10.0_Contact/10.3_Provider_Contacts/10.3.4_Provider_Enrollment.aspx to complete a provider enrollment application.

   2. Submit claims with the individual provider NPI number and discontinue billing using the psychologist’s NPI and appropriate modifier.

   Site Visits:

An unannounced site visit may be required as part of the enrollment process. Site visits are unscheduled, unannounced visits conducted by DXC Provider Representatives. During these visits, each representative will be wearing a name badge with picture identification and provide a DXC business card.  If selected for a visit, please, take a few moments to answer any questions and provide additional documentation, as requested.

Medicaid will review and verify claims through a post-payment review process to ensure claims meet necessary requirements for a provider enrolled as LPC, ALC, LMFT, LMSW and LICSW. Claims that do not meet requirements may be subject to recoupment.
