David Carrington
CEO of RacingUSA.com
David Carrington, local business owner and president of the Vestavia Hills City Council, is one of 10 entrepreneurs nationwide being honored for entrepreneurial excellence by a national foundation.
Carrington, CEO of RacingUSA.com, will be honored with a 2009 Entrepreneurial Hero award from the Acton Foundation for Entrepreneurial Excellence, for which he was nominated by students in the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s School of Business’s American Marketing Association chapter.
Carrington, who sells NASCAR merchandise through his online business, is a frequent guest lecturer at the UAB School of Business and recently was part of the school’s participation in the Acton Foundation’s Take an Entrepreneur to Lunch program.
At the lunch, Carrington was interviewed by students on the history of his business and career. The students then submitted a report and video of Carrington to the foundation to formally nominate him.
The school said hundreds of similar reports were submitted from universities across the country and 10 entrepreneurs were given the honor.
As part of the award, the students will receive a $1,000 grant and Carrington will help the students in deciding which charity will receive a $5,000 donation in his and the students’ names, said a news release.
