The Alabama Public Health Association recently recognized persons from across the state who have demonstrated exceptional merit during the past year in the field of public health.

Kratina (Tina) Cunningham of the Southwestern District of the Alabama Department of Public Health was awarded the Virginia Kendrick Award which recognizes an individual who has provided notable service to the people of Alabama while serving in a supporting role in the field of public health. Ms. Cunningham is a disease intervention specialist who covers Baldwin, Conecuh, Escambia and Washington counties.

According to a letter of support for this prestigious statewide award, “Kratina’s dedication to the challenges of working with clients dealing with sexually transmitted diseases is evident in the praise of her supporters, all of whom commented on her ability to handle a tremendous workload with high levels of compassion and excellence.”

Supporters said Ms. Cunningham has established great rapport with co-workers and clients alike, making a difficult job run as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Her communication skills were singled out repeatedly.

“She is kind and compassionate, but also stern if needed,” wrote one supporter in commending Ms. Cunningham. “We are fortunate to have such a dedicated person working with us to ensure that our clients are cared for in a timely manner.”

The association's 62nd Annual Meeting and Health Education Conference was held at the Montgomery Marriott Prattville Hotel and Conference Center at Capitol Hill in Prattville April 4-6.
