A Veterans Day
program will begin at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 10 at the William F. Green State Veterans Home, 300 Faulkner
Drive, Bay Minette. The event is
free and open to the public. The
Veterans Day event will be a time to recognize the men and women who have
served and sacrificed for the freedoms Americans enjoy.
Captain Sharon Sprowls, US Naval Reserves-Nurse Corps, will be
this year’s keynote speaker. Captain Sprowls was assigned to the USNS
Comfort during Desert Storm, working as a trauma flight nurse. During Bosnia she
served aboard the USS CV67 JF Kennedy. While on board she experienced a short
hardship that left a lasting fear for her. There was a fire and she was trapped
in a space where the fire was contained. She nearly lost her life. She also was
assigned to the Reserve Center Mobile in New Orleans, working undercover in drug
operations in Mexico. She retired in 2005 as a Navy Captain.
The Little Pirate
Clover Buds and 4H Buccaneers and the Boy Scout Troop 87 will lead the Pledge
of Allegiance while the Baldwin County Air Force JROTC unit will post the
colors. The Marine Corps League will serve refreshments following the program.
