MONTGOMERY—Alabama veterans will have the
opportunity to “shop” for benefits and services at the “Supermarket of Veterans
Benefits” (SVB) fair planned for Tuesday, November 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at
the Florence Coliseum, 702 Veterans Drive, Florence.
The Alabama Department of
Veterans Affairs (ADVA) is hosting the SVB fair as part of a statewide outreach
campaign to help veterans and their families obtain information on state,
federal and nongovernmental services that are designed specifically for them. The
SVB allows ADVA to set up shop in a community center of influence where
veterans live, shop and work. The event is free.
The ADVA is partnering with other
agencies for a “one-stop-shop” opportunity for current and former members of
the Armed Forces. State and federal VA officials, along with other service
organizations, will be on hand to provide veterans information on VA programs,
health care benefits, claims, counseling, and a multitude of other services,
such as social security, Medicaid and legal services.
“There are many agencies that provide benefits and services to veterans,
and this is a great opportunity for veterans to learn about all of them in one
day,” said Clyde Marsh, ADVA Commissioner. “Since we began this program, we
have assisted thousands of veterans and their families receive their earned
benefits.”
“The SVB is much needed as a
source of outreach to our community. We currently have approximately
12,000 veterans, not including dependents, in the Lauderdale/Colbert county
area,” Tim Edgil, ADVA District I manager, said. “This event is a way of
showing our support to those who served their country.”

SVB event, the public can contact the Lauderdale County Veterans Service Office
