Press Release: Public Health, Alabama Department of

Public Health Advisory issued for Big Wills Creek

CONTACT: Wade Bobo
(256) 845-1931

The DeKalb County Health Department advises the public to avoid waters in Big Wills Creek in the Terrapin Hills Country Club and Subdivision in Fort Payne because raw or partially treated sewage is being discharged there. This advisory is based on information provided by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management concerning a continuing sewage overflow from the privately owned sewage system for this subdivision development.

As a result of contamination in the water, the Health Department advises no fishing, swimming or contact with the waters of the creek in the immediate area and south of Terrapin Hills. If you have contact with the water, wash thoroughly with soap and water.

Sewage may contain many types of disease-causing organisms. E. coli in contaminated water can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, respiratory and other illnesses.
