Increasing Prescribed Fire Capacity through Mentoring, a Live-Fire Event

The Alabama Prescribed Fire Council, along with public and private collaborating organizations, will conduct ten simultaneous prescribed burns on the first available burn window (Monday through Saturday) between February 21‐March 11, 2017**. Participants will attend the full day, 7:30 am to approximately 3:30 pm (CST).  Lunch in the field will be provided.   **Depending on weather conditions, selected participants will be given 2 days advanced notice before the program is held. 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: Those applicants who qualify, will experience this day‐long “start to finish” learning opportunity at no charge. Ten participants will be assigned to each crew managed by experienced, Alabama certified prescribed burn managers. Participants will have access all day to observe, ask questions and EXPERIENCE ignition and holding a burn between 150‐300 acres with a variety of fuel types, forest types and stand conditions. 

This unique program will be held at Sehoy, Enon & Easter Plantations, Bullock County, near Hurtsboro AL (located less than 1 hour from Montgomery, Opelika, Phenix City, Eufaula).  For those choosing to stay overnight in the area we suggest you check for lodging in Opelika, Eufaula, Phenix City, Union Springs.
HOW TO APPLY:  Please complete the online application form no later than February 6, 2017. Selected participants will be notified by email and/or by phone no later than February 13, 2017. Participants will be required to participate for the entire day and sign a hold‐harmless liability disclosure/waiver on the day of the event.
