The Friends of Gaineswood are pleased to announce the newly appointed site director, Paige Smith, and new board members Ann Compton Arnold, Joseph C. South III, Aretha Muhammad, and Betsy Compton.
The Friends voted to make these additions at its July 30 meeting.
Paige Smith will replace long-time site director, Carolyn Bell, who is retiring to spend more time with grandchildren.
“Carolyn Bell and her staff have done a marvelous job over the past 18 months in assuming the daily operation of Gaineswood,” said John Northcutt, chairman of the Friends of Gaineswood Board. “They have also implemented several new ideas in the promotion of the house as a National Historic Landmark.”
Mr. Northcutt also said how fortunate they are to have someone with Paige Smith's qualifications to step into the role of Site Director. “Under her leadership, along with the support of our new Board members, the Friends hope to initiate additional marketing strategies in the coming months to bring greater recognition to Gaineswood and the Demopolis community.”
