By ratifying Amendment One, the people of Alabama have chosen to make an unprecedented investment in this state’s future. Alabama is now ideally positioned to compete globally for jobs and industries that will help thousands of people have a better way of life – now and for decades to come. I want to congratulate Governor Riley and the members of the House and Senate who recognized the importance of passing the economic development incentives bill that made this amendment possible. Because of so many people working together, we are now able to glimpse the full potential of Alabama’s future.
The passage of Amendment Two speaks to the character and heart of our people. This amendment guarantees that funds will be available to meet the future healthcare costs for the hardworking people who have retired from state service and from our schools. Our state is growing and changing at an immeasurable pace and it is vital that we take care of the people who make it all work. Amendment Two adds a valuable component to state service ensuring that we remain able to attract the best and brightest to serve.
