Black Volunteer Fire Department in Geneva County Receives Donation of Fire Truck

On Thursday, July 7, representatives of the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) presented a 2002 International 4900 model crew cab fire truck with a Pierce class “A” pumper engine to the Black Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) in Geneva County. As one of ten volunteer fire departments in the county, this equipment will greatly enhance Black VFD’s capabilities of providing emergency fire services to local citizens and the surrounding communities.

With an original acquisition cost listed as $193,041, the truck was acquired by the AFC from the Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) located in Gulfport, Mississippi, through the Department of Defense’s Federal Firefighter Property (FFP) program. For information regarding the AFC’s authorization to obtain and issue federal excess property, visit the AFC website at www.forestry.alabama.gov/VFAProgramOutline.aspx

The mission of the Alabama Forestry Commission is to protect and sustain Alabama’s forest resources using professionally applied stewardship principals and education, ensuring that the state’s forests contribute to abundant timber and wildlife, clean air and water, and a healthy economy.
