MONTGOMERY – On Friday, Secretary
of State John Merrill announced that Republican Presidential candidate Dr. Ben
Carson will revisit Alabama.
On November 19, 2015, Dr. Carson will appear at the
University of South Alabama Mitchell Center from 4 to 5 p.m. for a free rally.
Following the rally, there will be a fundraiser from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at a
residence for those who wish for a private audience with Dr. Carson.
Tickets for the fundraiser are $500 per ticket, $1,000 for
VIP and $2,700 per host committee person and are available on Dr. Carson's
website.
Additional details on Dr. Carson’s visit will be released as
updates are received.
The Secretary of State commented on Dr. Carson’s return to
Alabama: “Candidates that continue to visit our state are proof that the SEC
Primary is real and working,” said Secretary Merrill. “With the assistance and
full support of the Alabama Legislature, one of the most significant things we
have done in the Secretary of State’s Office is change the primary date to
March 1. Since the March primary legislation passed, the top two Democratic
candidates and seven of the top Republican candidates have made campaign stops
in Alabama, which is unheard of for our state. Our state has a strong voice,
and it is being heard through the SEC Primary! As Secretary of State, I will
continue to position Alabama and the South as a place where Presidential
candidates are willing to make an effort to visit and meet our remarkable
people.”
Dr. Carson visited Alabama in August during a luncheon in
Pike Road.
Alabama recently saw visits from former Florida Governor Jeb
Bush, Dr. Ben Carson, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Senator Ted
Cruz, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Ohio Governor John Kasich,
Senator Rand Paul, Senator Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump and Wisconsin Governor
Scott Walker.
For more information on meeting the candidates, please
contact the Office of the Secretary of State at 334-242-7200.
This communication is not an endorsement of any particular
candidate or political party but an effort to encourage voter participation and
registration, as well as participation in the SEC Primary, which will be held
on March 1, 2016.
