MONTGOMERY – On Thursday, Secretary of State John Merrill announced that the Secretary
of State’s Office will provide Alabama Election Officials, as well as all
Alabama citizens, the complete publication of Alabama’s Election Laws on the
Alabama Secretary of State’s website.
The new online feature:
- Saves the state of
Alabama approximately $11,000 to $14,000 by not providing the same information
via a booklet purchased at the taxpayers’ expense.
- Provides accessibility to more Election Officials
and Alabama citizens through the Secretary of State’s website. Previously, the
booklet was released in limited quantities due to its cost.
- Election publication shall allow for the laws to be
updated more frequently.
“Since taking office, I have sought ways to
decrease costs of doing business in the office of the Secretary of State,
regardless of the amount,” said Secretary Merrill. “As I stated in April,
Alabama’s citizens have to find ways to make ends meet on a daily basis, and
it’s important the government follows their example. This is a simple step to
save taxpayers’ dollars without any negative impact to the citizens of Alabama.
Alabamians elected me to see that this office operates on the same principles
they use to run their household budgets, and I intend to do so.”
