Medicaid:
10/14/2026 - Effective November 1, 2026, the Alabama Medicaid Agency (Medicaid) will remove prior authorization (PA) requirements for all MRI, MRA, CT, CTA and PET scan procedures, as well as nuclear cardiology services, diagnostic heart catheterizations, and stress echocardiography (ECHO) procedures.
For services rendered prior to November 1, 2026, providers must obtain PA before furnishing these services to Medicaid beneficiaries. Claims submitted without approved PA will be denied.

10/14/2026 - The Alabama Medicaid Agency (Medicaid) updated coverage requirements regarding hearing evaluations performed by a licensed physician.
Effective October 1, 2026, the hearing evaluation recommendation must be within six (6) months prior to the hearing aid fitting. This requirement is addressed in Chapter 19 of the Alabama Administrative Code: Rule No. 560-X-19-.01 Hearing Services.
