ALDOT Prepared Statewide for Winter Weather Conditions That May Affect Alabama Roads and Bridges

MONTGOMERY The Alabama Department of Transportation is monitoring road conditions as a winter storm moves across the state.

During extreme winter conditions, ALDOT personnel monitor bridge/road conditions along with local authorities to determine what actions may be necessary. Resources including sand and extra personnel are on reserve.

“We’re committed to keeping Alabama’s state, U.S. and interstate highways open and passable and avoiding closures if at all possible,” said ALDOT Director Joe McInnes. “We maintain a constant state of readiness to respond to any adverse weather conditions, and we have resources and personnel standing by.”

One of the biggest issues, though, is how motorists react to the potential of freezing conditions on Alabama’s roads and bridges, McInnes cautioned. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution, allow extra travel time, adjust their speed to existing weather and roadway conditions, allow extra distance between other vehicles and ensure their vehicles are in good operating order.

For road closures and additional information, visit www.dot.state.al.us. Officials also urge citizens to monitor local news media outlets for road closure information.
